Lake Powell - June 2010

We had our first Lake Powell trip of the season the first week of June. As always a grand time was shared by all. My brother Dave had knee surgery and didn't think it would be fun to spend a week trying to get around the house boat on crutches so he didn't come, but we had everyone else on the boat at some point during the week.

We didn't get a big group picture this time but here is all the grand kids, and Grandpa.

The kids spent lots of time playing in the sand, making castles or various other objects, giving each other mud baths or drawing mud tattoos.

Havyn made a sand snow cone.

Ryan liked to eat the sand for real.

We had a few injuries during the week. Austin fell off a small cliff and skinned up his back. The picture doesn't do it justice. He was pretty tough.

Amber got her finger caught in the rope while surfing. After coming up out of the water and seeing her finger bent sideways under the other fingers she grabbed it and yanked it back into place. She was tough too. We thought at the time she had dislocated it. But when we got home her brother-in-law (a doctor) suggested she get it x-rayed, and low and behold it was broken. It's pretty crooked, it may never be the same.

Cole and Ethan spent a lot of time fishing. They got pretty good at it and were even baiting their hooks and removing the fish themselves.

Here's Ethan with one of his catfish.

Javan caught this carp with just the net.

Payton and Ledger share the same birthday, June 4, so we celebrated with a delicious chocolate cake.

One of the days we took a sightseeing boat trip.

Ryan wanted to wear my sunglasses.

We tried to make it up to the sand dunes in Moki Canyon, but the water wasn't high enough. So we cruised over to look at the caves in Lost Eden.

Ally and Havyn love going on the boat.

We stopped at the marina to get an ice cream to cool down.

Everybody was pretty worn out from being out in the sun. (This is totally real.)

Javan was too excited to sleep.

One of the other days we took a hike up to an arch in Hall's Creek. Javan and Ethan were rolling this rock down the hill.

Taylor, Madison, Cole, Davis, Steve, Ethan and Javan on top of the arch.

Javan, Ethan and I at the arch.

There were some big pools of water by the arch full of tadpoles. So we spent some time trying to catch a few.

Ethan with one of the tadpoles he caught.

Davis, Javan, Ethan and I caught the huge lizard on the hike back. He was a mean sucker, he bit Davis a few times.

Ryan and Ledger loved climbing up and down the ladder to the top bunk bed. They were so proud of themselves.

Ally went down the slide for her first time with Javan.

She said it was fun but she didn't want to go again. Maybe next time.

For being pretty early in the season I thought the water was going to be pretty chilly, but it was actually quite refreshing. We spent lots of time swimming and basking in the sun.

Ally went surfing with Javan again this year, but his time she had a smile on her face and was having fun instead of screaming.

Javan showed us all up on the surfing. Everyone, except me, could let go for a second, but Javan had it dialed right in. Good job hun!

Hey, don't leave me guys!

We had a great time at the lake and were sad to see it come to an end. I was so happy that Amber and Steve's family could come, they haven't made it the last few years. We even got Nate's family for a few days. Thanks everyone for a great week.
Can't wait until next time.
